Commonwealth 2010 will certainly bring a boom in the tourism sector of India. Government estimates state that two million foreign tourists and 3.5 million domestic tourists are likely to arrive in Delhi for the respective event in October 2010.
Delhi itself serves as a key destination when it comes to India tourism. It is one of the richest places in India in terms of art & culture, forts, historical monuments and many other wonders. Moreover, its proximity to other popular wonder places like Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur, Varanasi, Khajuraho, Shimla, Kullu-Manali, Mussoorie and wildlife sanctuaries like Ranthambore Wildlife Sanctuary or Corbett National Park etc. makes it a happening place for tourists.
The Tourism ministry of Delhi is working with the ministries of railways and civil aviation for setting up budget hotels. These will be having about 1,30,000 rooms and convention centers in all over the state. Moreover, a lot is being done for smooth transportation. The ministry is also planning to organize four shopping events before Commonwealth Games 2010 in three states to attract more tourists.
